ST. JACOBS ABC ACQUIRES ASHLYN

ELMIRA, ONTARIO – January 25, 2010 – St. Jacobs ABC is pleased to announce the acquisition of Tri-Day Ashlyn EX-96 from Kingsmill Farm, Durham, NC.  Ashlyn will join Dubeau Dundee Hezbollah VG-89-2Y EEEEE (acquired this fall) in the elite female program at St. Jacobs ABC.

Ashlyn is one of the breed’s finest brood cows with daughters and granddaughters finishing first in the show ring and taking home All-American and All-Canadian honors.  Today, Ashlyn boasts 50 offspring in North America including 20 Very Good and 27 Excellent—with one EX-93, one EX-94 and two EX-95.

Ashlyn also has several successful sons in A.I.  This includes St. Jacobs ABC sire 94HO11451 ASTEROID (Goldwyn x Ashlyn).  ASTEROID is making fancy daughters that are a force in the show ring and will start calving this summer.

Keith Wideman, St. Jacobs Board of Directors President stated, “We are pleased to acquire this breed icon for our elite female program at St. Jacobs ABC.  We believe Ashlyn will have a great impact on our company, and we would like to thank Kingsmill Farm for allowing us the opportunity to work with her.  Ashlyn, along with previous acquisition Dundee Hezbollah, will bring exciting opportunities with a number of calves from both being born next year.”

Tim Abbott, Director of Sales and Manager of ABS Canada/St. Jacobs ABC added, “Ashlyn is one of the world’s most well-known cows.  We believe having the ability to mate her to our most exciting Judge’s Choice™ and Red and White bulls is a unique opportunity.  Having daughters of Ashlyn in the future by Maxwell-Red, Aftershock, Destry*RC and others offers exciting potential.  When you think about making show-aged heifers with Ashlyn on the bottom side of the pedigree and cows like Dur Chan, Atlee, Hazel, Rose and Frosty on the top side, it is really exciting.”

Mitch Hockeet, Kingsmill Farm adds, “Kingsmill Farm is thrilled to have the Ashlyn tradition continue with St. Jacobs ABC.  Ashlyn has done phenomenal for everyone that has owned her over the years, and her potential is endless.  Ashlyn has helped put us on the map, and at our sale this weekend, people will see how much impact she has had on our breeding program. Ashlyn is a legend, and we thank St. Jacobs ABC for adding another chapter to her great story.”

Ashlyn, who just turned 13, will remain under the care of Trans Ova Genetics while IVF is performed.  Pending availability, St. Jacobs ABC plans to sell choice of future calves and live female calves from Ashlyn.
